Moray Falls

Moray Falls is a captivating waterfall located within the Moray Estate in Sri Lanka's Nuwara Eliya District. Originating from a stream on the southeastern slopes of the Samanala Mountain Range, the waterfall descends approximately 40 meters in three distinct segments before merging into the Maskeliya Reservoir. Reaching Moray Falls involves a moderate hike through the Moray Estate, which is mainly a tea plantation. The trail winds through lush tea fields and offers panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Swimming at the base of Moray Falls is not recommended. The pool is relatively shallow, and the water flow can be unpredictable, especially after rainfall. For photography enthusiasts, there are several vantage points along the trail leading to the falls and from the opposite side of the Maskeliya Reservoir, where both Moray and Gartmore Falls can be viewed together.

How to Get There

From Colombo, travel to Hatton via train or bus, a journey of about 4 hours. From Hatton, proceed to Maskeliya town, which is about 19 kilometers away. In Maskeliya, local transportation options, such as tuk-tuks, can take you to the Moray Estate entrance. It's a good idea to arrange transportation in advance, as public options may be limited.
