How to get there

If you are staying in Dambulla, it is only half an hour's ride to Pidurangala. Pidurangala is only about 2-3 km away from Sigiriya town. You can rent a tuk-tuk, hire a taxi, or ride a bicycle to reach the site.

Public buses are also available from Dambulla, Sigiriya, and nearby towns, but they can be less convenient due to their schedules. Organized tours that include transportation and a knowledgeable guide are another option for those looking to explore the area with ease.


Best time to visit

The best time to visit Pidurangala is early in the morning. This is when the light is best for photography and when the temperatures are cooler, making the hike more enjoyable. It's also a great time to catch the sunrise over the beautiful surroundings. In addition, it's a great time to spot the different species of birds found on the rock. That being said, the evening hours are also a great time, as the sunset will be magnificent from atop the summit.

Visiting during the dry season (January to April and June to September) is recommended, as the weather is more predictable, and the trails are less slippery. However, Pidurangala can be visited year-round, with the understanding that the monsoon season (October to December) may bring heavy rainfall.
